Preparations

Google timer to keep track

We want to first come up with all of the important components of the aircraft that we need to make design decisions on. Examples include the propulsion system, form factor, and passenger restraints.

  1. 2 mins of individual brainstorming about how the design of the drone should be

  2. 4 mins of sharing within the group

  3. 6 mins of each group sharing with everyone

For each of these ideas, we will take a total of (45 min / number of ideas) minutes to come up with potential solutions. Each group will present their ideas to the entire team at the end of this period.

10 minute break

Design solutions brainstorming

These designs will ultimately be the ones that will be decided upon for our aircraft’s initial design. We may create multiple prototypes and tweak the design to be more performant in the future, but this will provide a general direction for the whole team to invest time and energy into.

Each team should create a few design proposals. Include sketches, diagrams, or relevant related online information as part of your proposal. Be sure to include the advantages and disadvantages of the design.

Results

Identified Problems & pain points 😨

  • Form factor

    • modularity for different tasks?

  • 1 v 2 drones

    • separate drones for each task?

  • Aircraft control scheme

    • flight speed & flight accuracy

    • Speed (recall 80km/h minimum from weekend)

  • Power constraints & power supply

  • Landin on landing pad.

  • Autonomous path finding & (autonomous) landing

  • Consistent Takeoff/Landing

  • 5 kg weight limit on some landing pads?

  • Carrying Passengers - realism? - capacity?

  • Sensors

  • Connectivity / GS

    • Range
