Our Questions
Updating the sign
it has our name and logo wrong
Updating SDC directory
it is very out of date
Are the four safety trainings required for everyone who joins our team?
We've been enforcing it but unsure if we should tell other teams they should enforce it.
Is there a publicly posted version of “Sedra Student Design Centre Safety Manual”?
We have an old copy, couldn’t find one online?
If not, can we get one posted?
Are we allowed to fly sub 250g drones inside the SDC?
University drone policy seems to allow it.
Can we fly drones without tethering inside the SDC if nobodies around and we’re just hovering?
Tethering is a pain.
Mayhe something like after 10pm we get more leeway? Like there's actually nobody around.
Can we spin propellors inside our bay?
We can do it in 1401
Of course nobody in the room
What needs to be CSA approved?
If we only intend to use something outside, can we purchase it and store it within the bay?
This seems to be a valid exceptions a lot of teams are using to get around the requirements.
Do things that dont plug into the wall not require CSA approval?
Can we purchase a large battery bank as a buffer to get around CSA requirements?
Can we buy an ecoflow battery bank and inverter in one as a way around it?
Could we buy CSA approved circuit breakers as a buffer?
If we get a massive 12V power supply, can we connect anything to it’s output?
The other thing is like we have an inverter in the bay we bought for flight tests but like if we buy one reasonable CSA battery charger, have it charge a lead acid battery, then run an inverter off the lead acid, can we plug in anything? Like it's actually at the point where like a car battery is like 100 bucks and it's actually not a terrible idea if legal.
CSA approval requirement adds a lot of overhead effort and cost to our operations. Any loopholes we can leave open will help us a ton.
For example, a CSA approved power supply runs us at least twice as much as the exact same thing from another supplier and the hassle of getting the uncertified one certified isnt really worth it.
Is anything we build custom automatically excluded from CSA requirements?
We're at the point where building our own small powrr supplies and hot plates is starting to seem like a reasonable idea.
Daniel should apologize to Teertstra for that co-op students email fumble. that was pretty bad on my part.
People driving in the SDC
idk lame thing to complain about but this is definently not an enforced policy
Like we can’t back a trailer into the SDC and then people are driving cars around all the time in it
