This page is about the competitions of interest for the Team where general information of each competition will be summarized and important points regarding UAV’s designing will be stateddesign will be stated.

Unmanned Systems Canada's Student UAS Competition

Link: https://www.unmannedsystems.ca/

Based on the 2021 competition rules.

Two main tasks have to be completed, stated as follows:

Task 1: One VLOS Depot containing a package to be delivered to a single VLOS clinic.

  • One hour to complete the task.

  • Launch from the GCS area and fly to the Depot location.

  • Enter the Depot via the ‘door’ and identify the package that must be transported.

  • Maximum points for non-aided pick up of the package.

  • The UAV must use a mechanism that allows the package to be released remotely.

  • Maximum points when delivered inside the clinic tend.

Task 2: One BVLOS Depot containing packages to be delivered to three different adjacent BVLOS clinics.

  • Same as Task 1 but with multiple packages.

Design constraints:

  • Should be autonomous as possible.

  • Must maintain the integrity of the package.

  • Maximum take-off weight of 10 kg (not package weight included).

  • Must only use internal combustion engines and electric propulsion.

  • Must have a flight termination system to safely end the flight.

  • Must be brightly colored (safety orange day glow paint is recommended).

  • Must clearly display the team name.

Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International Student Unmanned Aerial Systems Competition (AUVSI SUAS)

Link: https://www.auvsi-suas.org/

Based on the 2021 competition.

Main Task: The mission consists of autonomous flight, obstacle avoidance, mapping, and airdrop. There exists the need for a UAV and a UGV.

Design constraints for UAV:

  • Maximum takeoff weight of 55 lb.

  • Should be autonomous as possible.

  • Must have a contingency plan in case of communication loss.

    • Land safely.

  • Must have either safety wire, loctite, or nylon nuts for the fasteners.

Design constraints for UGV:

  • The maximum speed is 10 mph.

  • The maximum drop payload weight is 64 oz.

  • Must have a contingency plan in case of communication loss.

    • Terminate driving after 30 seconds.

  • Must be able to drive autonomously.
