Cornflakes

Alison Thompson

Updates:

  • Horizontal stabilizer modifications in progress - stiffening it with aluminum boxtube

  • New, taller landing gear to fit 16” propeller

  • Stiffening the cabin - upcoming - Alison Thompson

  • redid control horns shout out to Nathan

  • redid control rods shout out to Justinflew, didn’t crash, nothing broken!

  • boxtube good stiffener

  • shout out to Nathan Green for the sick control horns that bolt in

Warning

there is a severe mechanical issue with the icarus/cornflakes model that we will get to later

Note

GOAL IS TO HAVE ICARUS WORKABLE BY THIS MON APRIL 3

this didn’t exactly happen

**Everything is now urgent. If you can’t complete it, you need to tell me so I can re-delegate it

Stiffener mount:
- Hrishik Patel need updates. If this is done, the file needs to be sent for printing

Front support bar:

Fuselage Skin:
- Andrew Wright Updates?

  • velcro in place, fuselage skin still needs work

  • Dremel part of this skin on weekend Conall Kingshott

  • see #mech-bounties for a list of things to dremel. Please add things to this list if:

    • the piece is carbon fiber on ICARUS

    • it interferes with anything on the frame

  • Alison Thompson to drive fuselage skin

Tail - vert stabilizers Andrew Wright
- Design ready to go, needs to be built**

Fuselage skin - Alison Thompson / Conall Kingshott

  • sorted mostly, interference is fixable

  • camera mounts in the bottom: holes exist

  • cabin in general, fixed interference over weekend

  • all fits together relatively well

    • EE can start wiring!

Avionics bay - Conall Kingshott

  • dremeling to get rid of interference

  • can be moved back-forth for CoM adjustments

  • possibly need standoffs for velcro attachments

  • * this is a last minute adjustment thing *

Landing gear - Alison Thompson

  • Fits well, stiffener cross-bar definitely needed. Updates? What do we need done

    • test these, make sure it all fits, then print the other 2 if goes well

  • waiting on right length bolts - Andrew Wright to follow up on bolts for pickup soon

Nose/tail - Andrew Wright

  • Coat the nose cone and tail cone with epoxyprinted and assembled

  • little drop test maybe upcoming

  • see how cabin interfaces make it sit

Nose/tail - Andrew Wright

  • testing went well? for weatherproofing?

  • cured

  • testing - water doesnt seem to absorb, reasonably waterproof

  • solution: add more epoxy, test indicates this works

  • take a look at sanding - test this before applying to nosecone

Bay door - Vishal Jayakumar

  • We need a connection to the frame urgently

    • glue and epoxy testing occurring

    • begin hinges - Andrew Wright , Vishal Jayakumar

      • exists in cad, revise and print

      • clear any interference - mark things for dremeling

Motor Mounts:

  • This is my (Conall Kingshott ) fault for taking so long or ordering bolts. They will be ordered right after this meeting and I will deal with assembling them last minute.

  • Andrew Wright If these haven’t been printed because of lack of testing, print what you’ve got so far and we’ll make it work.

not quite as urgent -
  • steps are connected to door (thumbs up)

  • attached to cabin.

  • hinges done Alison Thompson , superglued in, gorilla taped in. looks secure enough right now without bolting

  • interference when opening fully

  • interference with spar when door is closed

Motor Mounts - Andrew Wright

  • printed in CF PETG today

  • to be installed

Passenger Cabin Seats/ Interior - Sohee Yoon , Luke Johnston

  • Looking for more people to work on this!Prelim cad

  • pull up the photos?

    • think about how this will be printed

    • sohee is onsite, luke is not, theraband will need to be cut and chairs will be printed. prototype prints should be upcoming mid-this week

  • press fit? 0 tolerance

  • try for 1 piece

Other electronics mounting (slightly less urgent)

  • FPV camera for nose cone - Megan Spee

    • cad done, prototype printed, needs to be printed in CF and mounted to nose. awaiting final nose cone coating/assessment

  • Sensor stack @ bottom of fuselage - Megan Spee

    • WIP

  • Airspeed sensor mount to nose cone - Megan Spee

    • cad done, prototype printed, needs to be printed in CF and mounted to nose. awaiting final nose cone coating/assessment

  • ESC cases - Megan Spee , Nathan Green discuss this in icarus sync

    • printed prototype, test fit?

  • RFD900x case - Andrew Wright

    • prototype design, printed

    • will update and reprint, check fan sizing

  • VTX case - Andrew Wright

    • to be designedprototype design, print soon

Go to the icarus syncs (TUES 9pm) to stay up-to-date cross subteam

Flight tests and comp simulations

Megan Spee

lets not crash x3

there is mech work to do, come grind icarus (thumbs up)

Tracking

the mechanical issue with the icarus/ cornflakes model

The push prop doesn’t have enough untampered airflow

cornflakes was not able to generate enough forwards thrust to successfully transition to fixed-wing flight on weekend

Options

move push motor back to tail, build tail around the prop - includes cutting the current tail and using some 3D prints/ extra foam to build it up

2 push motors - 1 on the end of each rectangular boom, requires

move the motor back, attach to front of the horiz stab

big stick to move prop upwards

  • very clean air

stick cantilevered off the back spar, 1” CF tube sticking off the back of the rear spar. - Conall Kingshott

  • moves to sliiiightly cleaner air

  • vibe issues? if its a problem we just have to eat it ngl

stick leading from the back spar through the rear stabilizer, prop mounted at the end of this tube

  • vibration issues

cornflakes implementation? high mount, rear mount. can test both. triangle to prevent full cantilever. likely entire frame will bend lmao.

so just prep a mount that extends backwards. move cross-spar back, or bar. Ideally move entire cross spar. Alison Thompson

  • move this as far back as possible (question) while not having interference

  • rebuild cabin

Nose/tail

  • also make nose/tail cones better to match icarus. however, leave these fuselage adjustments until we * know * the nose/tail cones will exist for the weekend (CNC lead times….. gg)

  • icarus nose cones CNC’d, thrown on cornflakes!! Andrew Wright

  • must secure this to the back and front of the cabin… may include shifting the cabin forward (thumbs up)

thrust test this push motor - Andrew Wright to communicate w EE

  • get current readings. (through current clamping)

  • try 16” props and 17” props to see the current draw, thrust difference

  • overspecced props for this is probably fine (smile) be gentle with it

Static antenna

Megan Spee Andy Zhang Jason Li

Updates

  • Designing a static antenna

  • dimensioning things in the bay - based off of current tripod mounts in the bay

    VTX tower

mostly finished Jason Li (thumbs up)

    done CAD

    telemetry tower

to be completedneed to 3D print these parts @ RPC, RPC laser cut base plate

    getting polished up

    manufacture to follow

acrylic plates to be laser cut - RPC

Now there’s a print queue folder for STLs and GCODE files in grabcad

    omnipresent safety reminder

(green star) composites room for any fiberglass and carbon fiber (CF).

(green star) PLEASE be safe lol. these are carcinogens

don’t do this if you don’t feel safe!
    paint room for spray paint!

send meeting notes out at the end
