Cornflakes

Updates:

  • flew, didn’t crash, nothing broken!

  • landing gear were extended

  • foam nose cones attached, thank you Andrew Wright for the cnc!

  • push motor shifted to tail - didn’t get a chance to comprehensively test this, but seems to act better when the motor is running

Note

GOAL IS TO HAVE ICARUS WORKABLE BY THIS MON APRIL 3

this didn’t exactly happen x2

**Everything is now urgent. If you can’t complete it, you need to tell me so I can re-delegate it**

Fuselage skin - Alison Thompson / Conall Kingshott

  • uneven and warped at bottom

  • hinges for bay door interfere - and was moved after glued

Avionics bay - Conall Kingshott

  • dremeling to get rid of interference

  • can be moved back-forth for CoM adjustments

  • possibly need standoffs for velcro attachments

  • * this is a last minute adjustment thing *

Landing gear - Alison Thompson

  • printed and assembled

  • little drop test maybe upcoming

    • waiting until cabin is more stable pepelaugh (thumbs up)

  • see how cabin interfaces make it sit

Nose/tail - Andrew Wright

  • more epoxy added - are these ready?

    • looks similar to waterproof test piece

  • rough surface

    • maybe sand test piece - Andrew Wright

    • maybe cover with CF nose cone

  • looking to add primer?

target foam nose cone as comp-ready. Getting a little too close to comp to try for CF nosecone - adds complexity

Passenger Cabin Seats/ Interior - Sohee Yoon , Luke Johnston

  • prototype is printed

    • Sohee Yoon to check fit and adjust seatbelts accordingly

    • seatbelts need to be able to attach/reattach while inside of cabin

    • seatbelts on right side

  • we need holes drilled in the bottom plate for mounting Conall Kingshott

Other electronics mounting

  • FPV camera for nose cone

  • Sensor stack @ bottom of fuselage -

  • Airspeed sensor mount to nose cone -

  • ESC cases - Nathan Green

    • printed more? - dm him after mech :| print more ESC cases

  • RFD900x case - Andrew Wright

    • final printed? fan installed?

  • VTX case - Andrew Wright

    • print yet?

Andrew Wright done thrust test on push prop yet?

Vertical stabilizers - Andrew Wright

  • mostly assembled! L brackets being printed

  • Andrew Wright to put a coat of black primer on the tail to make it matte black

  • + the avionics bay

Go to the icarus syncs (TUES 9pm) to stay up-to-date cross subteam

electrical layout RFC for visibility - ICARUS

Megan Spee

important parts:

  • a phone is going in the bottom of the plane, there needs to be room for it through the foam ribs

  • we are mounting 2 video transmission antennas - one has to go along or inside a vertical stabilizer, and the other is horizontal across the rear spar.

    • Likely will end up stabbing this through the vertical stabilizer foam. otherwise it compromises aerodynamics of vert stab

  • there is an FPV camera mounted on the tail of the plane

    • can look like a dowel sticking up about 20cm in the center of the tail, or can be attached to the vert stab. Solutions? ideas?

  • we have 2 elevator servos now. need to cut a hole in the tail to mount the second one.

    • also cut hole for VTX

Electrical issue with the plane this weekend

couldn’t properly test the push prop - interference, basically. maybe can be explained better by daniel or anthony.

  • means that this is not a mechanical issue but we may need a mechanical solution. **

  • And we were not able to confirm the distance of the prop or nose cone made a difference

one of the solutions ** mechanical solution, meaning on Cornflakes, we will likely be running the motor cable about 20cm lower down, no longer on the frame, but strung between the landing gear. Not a permanent solution

separate signal from power lines

run signal wires from tail to to rear spar → directly into cabin

mechanical routing from rear spar to tail cone! - think of a solid way to do this (smile)

Sourcing acrylic? what’s the timeline update?

telemetry tower complete (thumbs up) needs a fan

VTX - more velcro, more tape. looking good. acrylic will be bought

3D print queue (smile)

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Q_br9GBNeDQyoC_tTMmVR7JwFED_s-bB0_7Q1zc3o6I/edit?usp=sharing

Now there’s a print queue folder for STLs and GCODE files in grabcad

omnipresent safety reminder

(green star) composites room for any fiberglass and carbon fiber (CF).

(green star) PLEASE be safe lol. these are carcinogens

don’t do this if you don’t feel safe!
paint room for spray paint!

send meeting notes out at the end

hardware order list **** use socket head bolts! ****

  • more m3 nuts that are good 🔥

  • shaft collar - m3x16 (ordered more gg)

  • m3x8 or 10 for mounting plates - CF plates to cabin

  • m2 assorted (x10?) for random electronics that * require * it 😞

  • small m3s for motors (question) may already have these - Alison Thompson to confirm if we need more
