Houston & Dallas 2025

Houston & Dallas 2025

Introduction

  • We are maintaining two flyable Houston class airframes this competition cycle

Houston

  • Purpose

    • autonomy testing of new software and sensors with the intent of doing high risk tasks prior to executing them on Big Quad 2025 airframe.

  • Owners

    • Assembly & Architecture have been driven by @Daniel Puratich & @Smile Khatri

    • Trying to hand off this program to an up and coming FTC but not sure anyone wants it

  • Hardware Details

    • Raspberry Pi

    • Autonomy Cameras

    • Pixhawk 5X

    • M9N GPS

Dallas

  • Purpose

    • Random University Indoor Requests

    • Do not use this aircraft for anything else

      • we need to keep it on reserve in case called in for a task

      • often we are being called in on short notice to handle these requests, we need an aircraft on standby here

  • Owners

    • @Daniel Puratich & @Hardy Yu did a ton of development at the start of F24 to get this configured and tuned

    • @Smile Khatri as mechanical designer

    • @Daniel Puratich piloting for indoor atrium cleaning initially

    • @Georgia Westerlund @Nathan Green coming onboard for mid F24 requirements

  • Hardware

    • Prop Guards

    • Pixhawk 6X

    • DSHOT ESCs

    • EP1 Dual for RC

    • M9N GPS

Philosophies

  • smaller drones are cheaper

    • so we can validate more stuff

  • Smaller drones are good to bring people up on

    • need a way to get members involved with making the drones fly

  • can use cheaper avionics to save cost on these programs

    • mavlink over ELRS saves us from needing a telemtry radio
