2022/11/20 EFS/MECH IMACs Meeting

Movement notes

  • No need for pitch

    • since we have 15 degrees of full strength signal, at about 65 degrees we have 1/2 of our signal quality (on a logarithmic scale) which means that we're probably going to be ok on VTX (which is the only one that matters since the RFD900 has an omni).

  • use stepper + magnetometer for orientation

    • andy to provide stepper specs soon.

Tower notes

  • tower to be similar to what we have at the moment, except center post will be extended higher. Guylines will go up to near the top to help keep us stable.

    • Tripod with ~2.7 meter PVC pipe extending through it

  • VTX system will be self supported and continuous rotation

    • Any cables that need to be run through the middle will go through the PVC pipe which can either have a usb slip ring, or the cable itself can just spin around a lot.

  • 2 towers and one of them rotates ???? @Andy Meng , @Anthony Luo to confirm

    • Both will be continual rotation, which can be software limited in order to prevent cables from twisting around themselves.

Other notes

  • Will investigate using xbees for short range communication between nucleo and ground station computer.

  • RFD900's will either run coax cables tto the rfd900 which will be closer to the groundstation, or will have rfd900 rotating, data being sent back over a rotating usb slip ring

  • no notes about weather sealing.
