Chief Pilot Position

Context:

1. Flight test check lists has not been used the way it is supposed to be, which is a big part of the reason for our crashes

2. The people who is checking off the check list is not knowledgable enough to make sure it’s in a good condition

3. Failing to meet deadlines for upcoming flight tests

4. pilot shortage, who should be flying is a problem

Questions needs to be answered:

1. who has the authority to cancel the flight test?

2. Should the flight test leader role exist?

3. Should the flight test leader/coordinator decided case by case depending on aircraft or test items?

4. Who will be the person responding to checking the checklist (the person don’t need to do all the checking himself but need to have the knowledge to verify those)?

role break down: (I think we need a diagram to explain all this)

1. pilot: person who is flying the drone

   1. ensures the safety of the aircraft during the flight test

2. flight test coordinator: coordinates the flight test

   1. booking the site, vehicle

   2. make sure everything on the check list is checked off (and we have 4 different checklist: week before, day before, before departure and preflight checklist)

   3. deadlines and checkpoints: make sure the drone is in fliable condition and the deadlines are met by Thursday before the flight test.

3. flight test requestors (a group of person/roles): person who request the flight test.

   1. outline clearly what needs to be tested during the flight test, ie. what is the task, what the task is for, success criteria.

Q1: Directors, Pilots, Any of the subsystem owners have the authority to cancel flight test. members are encouraged to make suggestions and alerts

Q2: Flight test leader role should exist, a lead on the flight line. Doesn’t have to be the same group of person as the flight test requestors

Q3: Flight test coordinator are consistent. Flight test lead should be as consistent as possible.

Q4: Flight test lead

The role of chief pilot can be deferred when pilot training is in action. Waiting until after competition. Case by case, report directly to directors
