Meeting overview

Meeting to discuss state of Competition Aircraft big quad.

  • Motors/props arrived

  • Timeline review → things to flight test when.

 Open action items

@EE to look at connectors for motor 3-phase

@Mech to send EE basic X-frame layout so that EE can come up with wiring diagrams/channels.

@Anni to look at static fire testing

Look at mounting the landing gear outside the x-frame w/adjustable angle?

@Conall Kingshott look at talking to bryan about composites

Flight recaps

Vanny is our only test drone right now, so we don’t want to do too many risky things with it.

However it flies very well

EE

Gemini progress? not much

  • timelines for PCB phases on asana

  • testing timeline interfering with exams?

Mech

CAD lookin crispy

  • Base X frame. everything runs through the center cube of aluminum, largely hollow

there is a 30x30 mm grid of mounting holes on the top

pixhawk on the standoff’d plate above

Batteries sit between the pale grey standoffs.

Taking arms off for transport?

  • CF tubes are screwed into these.

  • Need 3 bolts to remove the arm

  • need to thread cables through each time?

    • if bullet connectors on the end of the tubes, through the block, at the end of each arm. just stick the arm on and plug it in

  • Get someone from EE to slot on arms that connect with pins like a VGA port? no wires hanging out that need to be taped, etc

  • Landing gear should also be considered - connectors for these

Landing gear currently is a T shape, the X is not complete.

  • the joint in grey above is 3D print, it is a shear point

The X style landing gear may attach outside the main plate. This would be effective because wouldn’t need to take the landing gear off all the time.

X frame itself is close to completion. To send to EE for sizing, placements.

  • reduce noise

  • keep signal integrity

this is so mech can accommodate electrical wiring pre-finalization of the model

Thinking about static testing?

Drop testing?

Simulators?

  • not yet..? Not much interest/action on this

Timeline

Sourcing items:

  • composites canada for CF

  • bolts, peek, etc from mcmaster-carr

  • resin and CF manufacture materials - has Brian (Engineering machine shop, previous SDC machine shop) set up an easy rental/pay per use for this?

  • conall broke his finger so that will affect manufacturing timelines

  • Push for maiden pre august
