Challenges with ops

  • not enough team members to start projects

    • Lots of existing initiatives are on-going and don’t have milestones.

Projects push for W24 term

  • OPS bootcamp is live.

    • Not significant amounts of feedback on it. Still open to feedback.

    • Nobody has done the bootcamp yet.

  • AEAC Budgeting - wingchee

    • phase 1 paper pretty much done.

    • Continuing to manage.

  • Sponsorships

    • Wingchee to take over (is a lot of work)

    • Want to try to do termly updates for sponsors

      • Did one post-comp last year, should try and do them every term.

      • Generic e-mail?

    • Want to reach out to sponsors on asana list

      • Need to sift through

      • Prentice / melanie to work on updating sponsorship package & do outreach.

  • IG posts to be handled by emma

    • physical location unknown

  • Website updates (georgia)

    • 1 lead per subteam minimum?

Challenges

  • Merch, recruitment, sponsorships not in interest (compared to video things)

  • Ops oversees lots of “critical” components which takes precedence over things like “youtube videos” or “digital media” ?

    • hard to assign people to non-essentials since there’s not enough people on the team

AEAC sync - georgia attends because also on mech. and related to aeac phase 1 paper

could combine with leads

general subteam updates helpful in aeac sync. gets sometimes in the weeds.

leads - too late in the evening last term. admin updates/voting is reasonable outcome of leads meetings.

director involvement - this term, recruitment and events would be appreciated.

operations leadership struggle: operations historically and present relies on 1 person all the time (1-2). tried to build team up from no leads in the last year. still not a very well structured subteam → no clear path to future leads and bringup of next gen ops leads. contribution feels pointless if there is nobody who can carry it on. maybe can be done gently with bringup of a second ops lead during 1 term of overlap.

lot of interest in joining the team potentially. retention not great.

megan idea: go harder on social media recruitment reach?? - IG

Wingchee not interested in becoming full ops lead.

 

maybe hand out more PM roles?

current ops demographics: 3 tron, 1 finance, 2 mgmt, 1 syde

worked on blasting discord servers for AFM/GBDA programs and learn pages

 

maybe use different strategies for recruiting non eng people. see what orbital is doing

  • low barrier to entry

  • free food lmao

 

anni idea: make people come up with a plan for what THEY want to accomplish this term, compare it with a list of what you want them to do, and get them to execute it but they feel like it’s their choice??
