Tracking Antenna

Version 1 - STM32

stuck on this - hardware is funny

used to run gps with neo m8, but it’s not good. blocked people testing/developing. the IMU magnetometer causing problems.

stanley working with VN300 to replace neo gps.

hardy joining to help progress

 

Version 2 - Arduino

started in middle of F23

theoretically easier to work with. can use COTS IMU. new project, so not much progress.

Ayoung hopefully working w/ Aryan on this, depending on aryan’s availability (offsite)

RTK gps

found+nearly decided on a candidate for purchase. looking at fluctuating price atm.

 

can sensor board

stall - EE doesn’t have bandwidth

maybe bringing hardy to EE side → understand the board → able to move into development.

ZeroPilot

ZP EOT goal - getting support/ testing support for milestone 1 drivers. this is more related to HIL.

  • not related to competition

  • currently just fixed wing WILL BE NEEDING A FIXED WING!

finishing milestone 2 is also a goal for EOT.

  • not getting ZP3 interface until next term?

new bootcampers / new members coming into these projects!

 

Tracking Antenna

  • Mech probably doesn’t have the primary build out until march.

other options exist - maybe try to get software working on this beforehand for easy handoff between nathan’s/arjun’s antennas.

nathan has some existing that can be tested on relatively soon. have basic software (unverified). running on an arduino.

If EFS can → would want tracking antenna software working/prototyped by february ~ reading week? - this is the comp ready version.

  • Potentially EFS can take what nathan’s currently doing and add IMU/GPS to it. @Nathan Green

  • have a Neo m8 and drivers - but this has difficulty (too small not enough signal)

    • buy more of this

feb ~ 19th ideal deadline for tracking antenna comp-applicable software

  • don’t have enough diversity RX to effectively test this (? )

    • take it off pegasus to test

next steps/ intermediate steps:

  1. test to validate

    1. someone has to be in the bay who can either receive instructions or already knows how to flash it

    2. @Derek Tang probably will write documentation to help with this

  2. fly on pegasus at every flight test

  3. work out any issues as they come up

Can fly with 3 wire on pegasus - no mavlink telemetry, but still get link stats and over air data. (usually 4 wire?).
houston testing is 4 wire (working).
can move to 4 wire if 3 wire doesn’t work on pegasus.

 

RTK

  • buy 2

logistics may need to be sorted out

would be nice to have this working for comp. if this is the case:

  1. buy 3

  2. custom ardupilot firmware build : /

  3. up in air before reading week

probably not going to happen. likely something for next comp cycle if it’s planned well

  • need to spin the board (next fall)

EFS can make requirements and give them to EE

AEAC Sync

Thoughts on AEAC sync? Improvements / etc:

  • Low attendance from EFS leads

  • More COTS EFS projects → wanting to know what integrations are at play w/other subteams.

How are we feeling about short admin updates?

  • Was during EFS workshop

If team updates in future, what format would you want to be sitting through (discussions vs lists?)?

  • may be nice to be bullet points & skim through

  • Leads meetings topics may not be applicable to EFS
