Giving tuesday may 15

  • So May 15th will be the first giving day at the University of Waterloo.

    This is expected to be an annual thing that will kind of replace giving Tuesday, but also, you know, try and incite some forms of giving that isn't just financial.

    Financial obviously is important for groups like yours and other things on campus, but really the idea here is to create more engagement across the university in all of our partnerships

    • they are raising for sdc

    • Raise money, post on socials for this

    • university will match donations

    • Can talk about quotes or stories from people

      • send to teerstra

Discuss how we think SDC should spend the money soon

  • distribute to teams?

    • PAST: you wrote a proposal and think we had probably 15 to 20 teams writing proposals or each or receiving on the order of a couple $1000 of the department.

  • fix blue truck?

  • buy something else?

Outreach for elementary/highschool

  • FORMS ARE CONSIDERED SENSITIVE INFORMATION, STORE AND COLLECT SAFELY

  • new legal stuff for if we host an event for kids/minors

  • New forms if waterloo students go elsewhere to host an event for students

  • New waivers/permission forms for students involved in programs here (you are responsible for the students/kids)

    • but if they’re with their teachers/chaperones this is unnecessary

  • They wanna make an event hosting form so they make sure we are doing it right

IMPORTANT FINANCE CHANGE

  • Finance is changing on the two year and more expense plans.

    So you can only submit expense planes for expenses.

    And two years ago and it got announced that they were changing that to one year and we were only given one year grace period.

    So that is coming to a close.

    That is March 15th.

    So in 10 days you can only play in expenses within the last year.

    So if you have any expenses, I know some of the scenes are still submitting stuff from their competition last year.

  • Make sure you can get everything and in the next 10 days and we'll get it all processed because it's going to finance is going to do a hard deadline after the 15th, it will not be reversed, it will not be improved.

  • If we don’t get everything in iwthin the next 10 days it will not be reimbursed (in 10 days, you can only go 1 year back)

Safety Captain

  • He will be reaching out to safety captains next week or pay inspections and just reminded teams to make sure they completed their internal inspections and the process is you do that internal inspection with another safety captain from another team.

  • Concerns about welding, no more welding training being offered.

Security Issues

  • Broken into engine test room overnight

    • Room was trashed and tools stolen

    • Door was most likely not closed

  • Professor Fraser’s office middle of the day walked in and trashed it

  • Takeaway, keep the door closed if people are not in the workbay be careful with your spaces. Be on the lookout.

    • Even during daytime

Siemens Simulation software (e.g similar to ANSYS)

  • Expressing interest to work with waterloo students, advertising

  • different software suites, reach out to email in agenda to set us up for sponsor licenses

Temporary Co-ops

  • They would have to start work by the end of this week for temp co-op, or share with another team (and work till April)

  • Must offer position until end of term or handoff to another team. Can and must be done immediately

  • Flex credit, advertise and get the attention of students

  • Posted positions of WaterlooWorks

  • Hiring can be done through arrange your own job not just waterlooworks

  • Half of co-op is possible where you share

    • if you can’t share with another team, you can put this as a volunteer non-credit coop even if a student wants experience

  • Random door locking

Vinyl Banners for Teams

  • Coming up on fiscal year end, he will put funds into banners for each team and see what happens (time to wait for approval)

  • From there we’ll go

Kiosk

  • Do not have key to get into the kiosk so we don’t know when we can update it or it might disappear (although it is super out of date)

  • Proposals due friday, haven’t been many submitted yet
