Date of TestApril 8, 2017
ParticipantsSteve Bauchanan, Serj Babayan, Mark Dunk
Minutes Flown (plane)

N/A

Minutes Flown (quad)22 min

Objectives

  • Proof of flight video for quad

Summary and Problems Encountered

  • Tested out Becky. Attitude and rate control seemed to work fine. Quad stabilizes at all thrust levels
  • Yaw is insensitive and overshoots. Steve had to rely on the tape alone
  • Did a battery duration test. Flew the quad for 15 minutes. Battery went from 98% to 14%. Might have to attach a second one for competition

Tasks Before Next Test

  • Adjust yaw PID gains so that they're sensible
  • Re-built test rig for quad so that we can go at higher throttle values safely without toppling over and breaking props (as we did already)
  • Build test rig with the ability to test the yaw of the quad
  • Estimate the required flight time of the quad during competition. Need to time the quad to determine max speed, and how fast we think we can cover the required area
    • Ideally we only want to use one battery
    • The battery test that was performed was a simple hover. Should do more battery tests when performing maneuvers (such as going forward as fast as possible) and see how much actual flight time we'll have
