Hi there! Welcome to the setup & configuration manual for your brand-new ICARUS class drone. This section talks about our Integrated Monitoring And Control Center Configuration.

< insert image of ground station >

Although it is possible to provide command and control to any ICARUS class aircraft using any standard hobby RC receiver setup, we highly recommend you follow this setup guide to make your life, and your technical director’s future life much, much easier.

You should receive 2 hard-cases for your groundstation, these two boxes should contain all the necessary hardware for you to get started and get flying:

Quick Start Guide

Assuming everything has been setup already, we should be able to unpack our boxes and immediately setup command and control! First, let’s identify your system components, in your GroundStation Box.

Hardware Reference

  • 1 or 2 RadioMaster TX16S Mark II RC Controllers

    • One controller should come with a TBS Tracer TX Module already installed in the back.

    • If you receive two controllers, you should also receive a 3.5mm TRRS cable. (TRRS is your standard 4-pole headphone cable - anything you would use for balanced audio or headsets should work).

  • 1 Antenna Tripod with:

    • 1 RFD 900x

      • there should already be an FTDI cable plugged into the RFD900x

    • 1 TBS Tracer Nano RX

      • there should be two antennas attached

      • power, signal, and ground should already be wired into the RFD900x! If they are not, see <Wiring the Telemetry Tower>

    • 868/915 MHz Antennas

      • see <supported antenna hardware> for more information.

      • These should already be wired into your RFD900x, if they are not, see <Wiring the Telemetry Tower>

Note: Your RFD900X may or may not have antennas attached when you receive your antenna tower. If they don’t have antennas, don’t panic! We’ll get you sorted.

  • 1 Windows based laptop

    • (you may supply your own - see <Configuring your GUI>)

  • 1 Antenna Tripod with

    • 1 RMRC 1.3 GHZ Video Receiver

    • 1 RUSH FPV 5.8 GHZ Video Transmitter

Note: your Video Tower should arrive fully configured, if this is not the case, see <Wiring the Video Tower>

IMAGES TO COME

  • 1 Analog Video to USB receiver

  • A 5.8 GHz FPV Device. Possibilities include:

    • EMAX Transporter 2 goggles

    • 5” LCD Display

    • (you may supply your own goggles)

Once you have all the components, you should be able to extend the antenna towers, placing them at least 10 metres apart from each other, connect the ground station computer, and turn on your tx16 and fpv video devices. Everything can then be plugged in and you should be good to go < elaborate more >
