2024 Fixed Wing

Fuselage

Alison Thompson

Task Description

This will start mainly as researching fuselage shapes and once we have a few we want to try, it will become the CAD of how we want to implement this and mount it to our airframe.

UPDATE TITLE

Wing Span = 23.62 inches x 2 = 47.24

Fuselage Design should be around 75% of the wing span = 35.43 inches

Calum: 2024/09/20

Fuselage Length should be 75% of the wingspan

  • According to the assembly the wingspan is 1199.896mm long so the fuselage should be 899.922 mm in total length

  • A fuselage is divided into 3 sections: F1, F2, F3

    • F1 = The start of the leading edge of the wing and should be 20% of the fuselage length so 179.9844 mm in length

    • F2 = The tail length from wing trailing edge to leading edge of horizontal stab about 40% so 359.9688mm

  • The fuselage height should be 10 - 15% of the fuselage length so 89.9922 mm high

I am not sure if were are following these guidelines though

Panels of the fuselage will be placed on a frame with smooth edges and corners.

  • Frame was completed following the fuselage CAD model shape and measurements.

  • The frame will be adjusted to the dimensions of the new airframe once it has been redesigned.

    • Once the frame gets redesigned it will split into multiple parts to be 3D printed.

  • The panels will be modeled once the final airframe is settled upon.

  • Added the fuselage design into the main assembly of the plane. Its mated to the center of the plane with each of its “planes” parallel so it should be symmetric with the frames axis.

  • The Fuselage is a sketch in the x-y plane that is extruded so if any changes to the frame are made then this “sketch3” can be adjusted to accommodate these changes

  • Cutouts for the camera and the front motor mount have been made but other cuts should be made for the landing gear

  • At the moment the fuselage is quite “blocky” due to manufacturing constraints and the use of foam boards further ideas can be explored to make the fuselage more aerodynamic
