Preliminary Research:

We’ll be most likely using a 800mw VTX. This means the Radio Frequency (RF) power output = 800mW.

At an input of 12 V, the VTX consumes 250 mA according to the specifications. This means that the total power consumed is 0.250 A * 12 V = 3 W. If the power output is 800 mW, then the remaining power is 3 - 0.8 = 2.2 W.

This power is most likely dissipated as heat.

Questions/Ideas:

  • Run the VTX on ground for 30 minutes to find the operating temperature. We can use thermal camera too to determine where part of the VTX get most hot and place heat sinks accordingly.

  • Which areas of the VTX generates the most heat? Is it worth determining which areas to put the heatsink strategically to cool the VTX as much as possible or would this be trivial?
