Comp frame project explanation and check-in

Conall Kingshott

  • Show CAD

  • Weight check in and manufacturing technique explanation

  • Work on Cabin, mounts, and shields in next ~2 terms

Antenna tracker explanation and check-in

Arjun Mandair

  • Show CAD

Fixes that need to be implemented

  • Lessen overall weight and material consumption

    • Will help with overall inertia of the system

  • Lessen amount of set screws utilized on shaft

  • 90 degree sheet metal bend instead of machined block

  • Supports on servo mount

    • Also beef up overall design of servo mount

  • Sensor mounting

  • Waterproofing

Questions

  • Continuous rotation servo?

  • Servo on plate instead of bottom?

    • Will make the sensor mounting weird or difficult

    • May need to increase plate size

    • Increase overall inertia

  • Servo Wire tangling?

    • Slip ring?

  • Wiring antenna tracker to ground?

Will Update Asana after confirmations!

FEA/SIM explanation

Smile Khatri

  • Software we can use: SolidWorks simulations, Ansys Fluent & Ansys for FEA and CFD

  • Simulation workshops starting late September

    • Workshop 1 will go in-depth about CFD, fundamentals of aircraft aerodynamics which will help us make our drone more aerodynamic

    • opportunity to learn Ansys Fluent (popular software for running CFD sims)

    • Workshop 2 will be focused on FEA, static and dynamic sims. I.e. we can use FEA to determine whether our landing gear can withstand the impact from the drone landing

  • Ansys Fluent CFD tutorial for finding drag coefficient posted on Confluence

Monster Mount

Smile Khatri

  • Currently, the plan is to have the Monster Mount on the drone arm. I forgot the reason as to why we chose to have it on the arm. Is it possible to make a mount attachable to the bottom plate of the drone (w/o interferring the payload)?

    • The key concerns were

      • landing gear leg appearing on the camera’s peripherals/vision

      • vibrations on the arms since the mount is closer to the propellers
