1 - The Design Challenge

1 - Bootcamp Design Challenge

In the WARG EE W2023 bootcamp, you will be using Altium Designer to design a custom voltage regulator printed circuit board (PCB) from scratch! In fact, your PCB will be completely unique to you as you will have many opportunities to customize it. At a high level, the custom voltage regulator PCB will consist of:

  • An input power connector

  • An output power connector

  • A linear voltage regulator integrated circuit (IC) and the passive components to make it functional

  • LEDs to indicate the state of the voltage rails

Note: When designing your LDO, you will need to decide an appropriate input and ouput voltage as well as the power your design can supply

Note: This bootcamp can be challenging and you are expected to do a bit of your own research at some points. The bootcamp will guide you at a high level but don’t be discouraged and keep going.

So why are we interested in teaching you about PCB design and voltage regulation? Let’s take a look at a few important ideas in the next section and perhaps you’ll understand why!
