Introduction

Be sure you have completed all instructions in Bootcamper Onboarding before starting on this document!

Welcome to WARG and congratulations on completing the bootcamp! The following guide provides a list of things to do to fully onboard you to the team once you have completed a subteam bootcamp. Completing these tasks are required for a variety of WARG activities including, but not limited to:

  • Using equipment in the WARG bay (the physical location in which we work).

  • Accessing the machine shop.

  • Participating in the subteam(s).

Please ping your subteam leads with any questions, we are here to help!

Onboarding Tasks

LEARN Courses

Completion of some learn courses is required to grant you some privilege's to university resources which WARG relies on. The good news is, you only have to do them once. Completion of these courses is tracked in our team roster to ensure we as a team are complying with University safety policies.

Instructions

How to go about finding these Learn courses courses:

  1. Click Self-Registration at the top of the LEARN homepage.

  2. Find the course code in the table.

  3. Click on the link to the right of the course code.

  4. Enroll in the course.

Privileges

  • WARG Bay

    • Entrance to the WARG bay is allowed upon completion of the following learn courses:

      • WHMIS_2015

      • Worker Health Safety Awareness

      • Student Design Centre Safety Requirements

    • This is generally considered a recommended privilege for any WARG member due to Location Commitment especially if you are onsite!

  • ESMS E5 1101

    • Entrance to the ESMS in E5 1101 is allowed upon completion of the following learn course:

      • ESMS Safety Orientation

    • This is a recommended privledge if you are a part of the Mechanical subteam. Otherwise it is recommended not to bother with this course due to it’s duration.

  • EMS E3

    • There are no courses required to use this resource as it is a professionally-run machine shop that accepts orders.

Courses

This is all of the Learn courses in which completion will be useful for any WARGian to complete:

  • WHMIS_2015 - WHMIS 2015 (SO2017)

    • ~30 minutes

    • If you have the Workplace Hazardous Materials milestone on your transcript, you do not need to complete this course. This course is required in first year labs so it is likely you have already complete this course.

  • Worker Health Safety Awareness - Worker Health & Safety Awareness in 4 Steps (Students) - SO3000

    • ~10 minutes

    • four steps to complete

  • Student Design Centre Safety Requirements - Student Design Centre Safety Requirements

    • ~5 minutes

  • ESMS Safety Orientation - Engineering Student Machine Shop Orientation

    • ~2 hours

Administrative Tasks

  1. Fill out the team roster: https://tinyurl.com/WARGTeamRoster .

    1. You will be asked to do this at the start of every term as well to ensure our records are up to date.

    2. There is no issue with filling it out multiple times a term so if you aren’t sure if you have feel free to fill it out again.

    3. This form takes less than a minute on average and we are accepting speedrun submissions :)

  2. Ensure all tasks from Bootcamper Onboarding are completed, including the bootcamp!

  3. On Discord, make sure to do all of the following:

    1. Add your subteam role, if you haven’t already.

    2. Ask your subteam lead to remove the New Bootcamper role.

      1. Subteam leads: Ensure member has the subteam role before removing.

    3. Remove the relevant subteam bootcamper role.

  4. Feel free to send a message in #introductions.

    • There's a pinned message you can follow as a template.

  5. Add our WARG Google calendar for all meeting times.

    1. A link can be found in #information.

    2. All WARG meetings, including subteam meetings and work sessions, will be tracked there!

    3. All tasks and WARG projects are discussed in subteam and project meetings so please attend them to get started on the team!

    4. Please note that you are welcome to join ANY meeting on the Google calendar, including leads meetings, unless otherwise stated. We may want to keep some specific conversations private (with respect to Private Communications), but the vast majority of leads topics are completely public information.

    5. Any meeting you miss will have meeting minutes here on Confluence to keep you up to speed: https://uwarg-docs.atlassian.net/l/cp/QzEGA9ti .

    1. All our team policies and guidelines are documented for all to see. It’s good to give them all a quick read!

  8. Check out useful information in your subteam’s Confluence.

    1. At the top of Confluence, click Spaces, and then your subteam’s name.

Account Tasks

Administrative accounts:

  • Create an Asana account: https://app.asana.com/

    • Click Get Started and go from there.

    • We recommend registering with your university provided email though this is optional!

  • Create a Confluence account: https://www.atlassian.com/software/confluence

    • Click Sign In at the top right of the screen, then click Sign Up and go from there.

    • We recommending doing “sign in with Microsoft” to sign in with your university provided microsoft account though this is optional!

  • Request access to the WARG Asana and WARG Confluence in your corresponding subteam channel:

    • I would like to be added to the Asana and Confluence. Name: [name]. Email: [email used].

    • Feel free to ping the leads of the subteam to ensure this gets completed!

    • Instructions for leads to help with this can be found here: Lead Onboarding .

Subteam project accounts:

  • GitHub for Autonomy, Electrical, EFS:

    • I would like to be added to the GitHub organization. My username is: [email used for GitHub]

    • Feel free to ping the leads of the subteam to ensure this gets completed!

  • Altium 365 for Electrical:

    • I would like to be added to the WARG's Altium 365. My UWaterloo email is: [UW email]

    • Feel free to ping the leads of the subteam to ensure this gets completed!

  • CAD file storage system for Mechanical:

    • I would like to be added to the WARG's CAD system. My UWaterloo email is: [UW email]

    • Feel free to ping the leads of the subteam to ensure this gets completed!

For leads

The team roster should provide callouts for these account tasks as well, but we still state here we still want new members to manually make these requests to ensure they get access even if all automation fails. Please seeTeam Roster Information for how the automated system works.

Subteam Specific Onboarding Packages

Some subteams have more specific information regarding onboarding that is not found in this document. These can be found as subpages to this general (non-subteam specific) onboarding package.

To open a subpage, go to the navigation bar on the left, click on the > icon, and click on the subpage you wish to visit.

If you’d like to do another bootcamp for a different subteam:

You are totally welcome to complete a bootcamp for any other subteam. Feel free to pickup the specific subteam bootcamper role to indicate you’re working on that subteam, but do NOT grab the New Bootcamper role again.
