Revisiting the Advisor Role
Advisor Role
Should we consider bringing back the “Senior Member” role
want to make the distinction between graduates/ex-WARG members and ex-leads that are still involved in the team
was discontinued because nobody was really using it
people that are graduated should be treated differently
permissions for #logins channel
advisor suggests that you loose authority
“retired lead”
not everyone wants to PM or become deep in management but we still want a promotion
senior member is a good way to encourage people to popoff and take responsibility but it’s hard to quantify and useless besides for show so for little incentive for it
letting ex-leads keep their channels with the advisor role is kind of a way to keep them interested and dont want them to feel like theyre missing all the new stuff
changes
“leads-logins” has the bitwarden
“room-codes” has the room codes
“director-private” channel that excludes all advisors
discuss this in discord later, next leads meeting
Gcal for 1-1 Meetings
Using the Gcal for 1:1s
Whatever we decide should end up in Calendar document under use case section.
Odd 1:1s is fine, if lots of people are going to it then it’s too much
bootcamp review 1:1s are a lot for the gcal tho
putting people’s names into the gcal is kind of a prolly bad thing
PM Role Expectations
Setting expectations for PMs - Alison Thompson
an example of meeting mins, don't always take them but this was from when we onboarded Evan and Sohee (outdated doc for PM definition is linked there): W24 PM Onboarding
basically we have one-on-ones with incoming PMs (before they are obligated to agree to PM or not), we go over the responsibilities outlined in this one-by-one, Project Manager , then give them a chance to ask any questions they have. We usually connect each responsibility with a specific example for their project and make it clear that to PM you have to do all of those things to stay a PM and if they're not up for it they're welcome to say no
bootcamp reviews in the bay is nice to get people into the bay!
how many people do PMs manage?
