Notes on manufacturing status.
Airframe
manufacturing work is done
no updates on fabrication side of things
landing gear won’t be on airframe for easy wiring
Will be assembled when spar is deburred
When would EE like it ready for harnessing?
For Feb 11 work session
Wing
Spar had a wiring slot added to it, just needs to be deburred
will electrical tape the wires
landing gear
landing gear adapter arrived and safely stored in the red toolchest
Has to be assembled and mounted to the air frame
waiting on one part to be water jet for rear landing gear
waiting on this order, around 1 week
front landing gear assembled
Empennage
horizontal and vertical stabilizers complete
control surfaces printed, and linkages made as well
Only left to glue the vertical stabilizer to the horizontal stabilizer and test the servos for control surface deflection
last step
Tested the control surface deflection, seems all good https://discord.com/channels/776618956638388305/1288305741932924973/1336472328229490698
plan to done by this thursday
Servo temperature issue
We shouldn’t fly eclipse if weather is under -10C, don’t fly if there is snow or super windy
Most servos are rated for -20C, landing gear servo not checked yet → -15 C, so conclusion is to not fly if temperature is under -10C.
will the servo going on to eclipse work under 0 C?
Aileron servo: HS-311 Servo - ServoCity®, rated for -20 to 60 C
2.5kg Goteck Metal Gear Micro Servo - RobotShop ← servo bought for empennage
Rated for -20 C to 60 C
Important to be careful just because manufacture says it’s rated for those temperatures that may not always be the case, there’s no warranties or anything, we have to test to confirm they work. Same like how cheap servos don’t always provide the max torque that the manufacturer claims.
Pixhawk 6X Autopilot Flight Controller – Holybro Store ← pixhawk operating temp -25 to 85 C. Shouldn’t fly below -20?

Will follow up on harness schematic tasks
6s Servo Module
efs
code is functional
quality of life testing blocked by ee, not enough hardware
ee
need 1 good board for eclipse
bringing up rev 2, 1 board assembly is done, validation this Saturday
6s power module (EFS)
efs
progress is happening,
MVP aim to be done post midterm, around march 1st
MVP functionalities:
battery voltage sensing
battery current sensing
ee
no progress so far
Single servo driver
ee
needs 2
found 1 good board, need to make another board
ee working on the board bringup list, will follow up next week
efs
code dev work is done?is functional
can fly
24-5V buck
ee
is this ready to fly (fully validated) ?
not sure, Kenny Na is confident board is fully validated, optional board, probably won’t pursue for maiden flight
EE connectors are ordered, don’t think it arrived yet.
Timeline
Eclipse Strapdown Test: March 1st/2nd
Eclipse Maiden Flight Test: March 8th/9th
another foam plane?
Electronic component inventory status:
where they are Nathan Green
Pilot Training - Foam Plane
Crashed right after the throw ggs
ee to order servos that are rated for -30C https://ca.robotshop.com/products/dfrobot-micro-servo-motor
we used same prop as houston, see data highlighted in red below
should we calibrate ESC beforehand? if so how to calibrate?
Lesson learned:
not enough thrust, next flight we can use smaller 3s battery, 2 props to save weight and generate more thrust
do outside full prop test
next foam plane flight test:
buy off the shelf foam plane
takes around 2 weeks to arrive, probably during reading week
should be able to house px6 and other electronics.
Foam plane program
request funding for engsoc and weef and mef
help people learn plane control
