Mech Design Workflow

This page is to help new mechanical members understand the current design workflow on WARG. All WARG designs should follow this workflow:

  1. Task assigned via Confluence task tracking, a due date and decision doc should be included in the task entry. If this is not provided, ping the person who assigned it to get this information.

  2. The due dates for all tasks and any milestone deadlines (ie. first draft done) should be in mechanical’s google calendar: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/u/0?cid=Yzg5MTAxYjkxZDhmNTU1NjUzNWQ5NGIwNTRjMDYzNTcxZGM2ZTBjZDJlN2ViOTRkMmFkN2QyYTk5ZWQ1MTA3Y0Bncm91cC5jYWxlbmRhci5nb29nbGUuY29t

  3. Decision documentation is continually updated as changes are made/ideas are developed. Master decision doc page: Mechanical Decision Documentation

  4. All CAD adheres to CAD Guidelines and follows Solidworks PDM Use, this includes the naming conventions

  5. When designs/drawings are ready for review, a new CAD review request is opened on Discord in the mech-design-review-reqs channel. Please ensure your decision docs are up-to-date before requesting a review so the reviewer can tell what has changed (and why).

  6. Design review requests should include:

    1. ping to the reviewer, this will be the PM for the task (this may be a lead)

    2. the file name(s) to be reviewed and their location in PDM

    3. the link to your decision document

    4. appropriate tag(s) for the project

  7. The PM will review and leave comments in the decision documentation and ping you in the review requests channel when this is ready. They may ping others in the review request to take a look and give feedback. They will react with a green checkmark when the review is complete.

  8. Continue this cycle until the project is finished.

  9. Before a part is manufactured, or drawings are printed, a lead should be brought into the review thread to give their comments in the decision doc. A lead needs to approve any part before it is made.
