Conducting interviews

Overview

Audience: Co-op hiring coordinators.

Logistics of organizing and conducting interviews.

TODO

Prepare interview questions and interview outline

  • With expected time for each section

  • Leave at least 5 minutes for interviewee questions

  • Autonomy finds 30 minutes to be too short so it’s typically 45 minutes with 15 minute slack

Make a scheduler thing (Calendly? TODO) and test that it works (e.g. use incognito mode, get someone else to test)

  • Make sure 1st time slot is at least 24 hours in advance to allow time for responses

  • Make sure time slots allow enough slack time between interviews (to finish writing notes, discuss interviewee, interviewer feedback, in case interview overtime)

  • Don’t embarass yourself by sending links that don’t work

Send emails:

  • TODO add template

For every response (i.e. interviewee), make a Word document in OneDrive for interviewer notes

  • Populate the notes with the interview outline

  • TODO add template

Do the interview

  • At least 2 interviewers

    • Typical division of work: 1 is primarily to ask questions, 1 is primarily to takes notes

      • Although either can do the other (e.g. follow up question)

  • Follow the interview outline

    • Leave enough time for interviewee questions
