Propeller Guards

@Smile Khatri

Task Description

Design a propeller guard for the Dallas airframe. The propellers are 10inches in diameter. The current guards are a bit fragile, and do not completely protect the propellers if the drone is flying at an angle or is trying to fly in narrow spaces.

Note: Houston and Dallas share the same CAD assembly. It can be found in PDM: "C:\WARG_CAD\Houston\HOUSTON_MAIN.SLDASM"

Adjusted Propeller Guards

  1. Adjusted the span of the guard to cover 180 degrees. This way, the propellers would be protected when flying into corners.

  2. Extended the length of the guard to make sure propellers are not vulnerable for drone tilting angles up to 45 degrees.

  3. Added more material to the ends of the guard to make it more rigid and less bendy.

  • I like the idea to taper the cantilever supports

  • The new prop guard is too large to be printed on our Bambu printer. The dimensions for the maximum print volume is 256 x 256 x 256 mm.

    • Is it possible to make the prop guard smaller? If not, is there an alternate material we could use? thinking of possible laser cutting this out of a stiffer material. This will get rid of the extruded regions but if the material is stiff enough that may not be needed

Solution for print bed size: divide the guard in two (it can be attached the same way) The right half is shown here:

If this does not work, laser cutting using acrylic could work. However, it may cost up to 20$ for the material (unless we have some laying around). Acrylic may also be significantly heavier.
