LiPo Battery Charger Operation Instructions [WIP]

1.0 Operating the old charger

The instructions in this section are for using the old battery charger in the Bay. Only the ‘balance charging’ mode should be used to charge the battery, and the ‘storage’ mode should be used to discharge and store the battery.

1.1 Charging the battery

  1. Connect the XT60 connector (+/- terminals) of the battery, and the balance lead cable to the charger. You must ensure that the balance lead is connected so that the charger can measure the voltage of all cells in the battery. Separate pins are dedicated for a 3s and 6s.

  1. Make sure that the LCD screen has the same display as shown below:

If the first cell does not show ‘LiPo’, click ‘BATT. TYPE’ to cycle through different batteries.

  1. Set the charger setting to charge either 3s or 6s batteries. To cycle through different settings (i.e. charge mode, # of cells, and mAH) quick press the ‘Start’ button once. To change the value, press the ‘Inc.’ or ‘Dec’ buttons.

    1. For a 3S battery, the following settings should be used:

      For a 6S battery, the following settings should be used:

      If the battery specifications vary, then the mAh and # of cells must be adjusted accordingly.

  2. After the proper settings are set, press and hold the ‘Confirm’ and it should start beeping. You may be prompted to press ‘Confirm’ again to start charging. If so, press ‘Confirm’ again.

  1. Once the battery is fully charged the charger will beep repetitively. Press the ‘BATT TYPE’ button to stop the charging and disconnect the power cable and the balance lead from the charger.

1.1 Discharging the battery to storage

  1. Connect the XT60 connector (+/- terminals) of the battery, and the balance lead cable to the charger. You must ensure that the balance lead is connected so that voltage is balanced across all cells. There are separate pins dedicated for 3s and 6s batteries.

  1. Change the charger mode to ‘STORAGE’. You can cycle through different charger modes by pressing the ‘INC.’ or ‘DEC’ button.

  2. Long press the ‘START’ button until it beeps once and this will start the storage process.

  1. Once the storage operation is finished ( the battery has around 3.8 - 3.85 V per cell) then the charger will beep. Press the ‘BATT. TYPE’ button to stop the storage and disconnect the XT power connector and the lead cable.

The battery capacity should be visible on the battery package.

 

2.0 New Charger

The instructions in this section are for using the newer battery charger in the Bay. Only the ‘balance charging’ mode should be used to charge the battery, and the ‘storage’ mode should be used to discharge and store the battery.
