Reviewing Bootcamps + Onboarding
Bootcamp
Make sure you reread what the bootcamp says: Mechanical Bootcamp - Archived S23
Beforehand: You should get their SW models, look through it and take notes then set a time to call them (not very long, generally it’s about 10min and you could do it right before a meeting if you want)
Things to check:
Ensure all sketches are fully defined (No blue lines), and that there are no rebuild errors. You may need to explain constraints here
Make sure all holes are made using the hole wizard tool, explain it if needed
Look through feature trees, make sure they haven’t used crazy unbroken external references, or 25 features where 6 would do, etc
Mounting method uses 4 M4 bolts (stated in the bootcamp)
All the parts used are real parts (can ask for a list of links) /they know the product unless we’re manufacturing them ourselves
Ask them their plan for manufacturing - 3D printing is probably the most common, some might use some metal → make sure that whatever way they say makes sense and it possible (ex: you can’t just make metal into whatever shape you want)
Ask them something they would improve or change in the future
Onboarding
The following is supplementary to general onboarding. New Member Onboarding
General questions (things to ask in onboarding/bootcamp meeting). Feeds into team roster, recruitment statistics, and target project areas of interest.
Program and year
Why you want to join the team/how you heard about us
What part of mech you're interested in
Do you have shop experience
Have you completed relevant safety training courses (linked in New Member Onboarding)
Add their credentials to Confluence/Asana/PDM
