SDC Meeting

Socials

  • Leads & PMs social

    • How do we actually get PMs to into these things?

    • one week notice is kind of short

    • address distribution was tough

    • PMs don't really know anyone there and were intimidated to come

    • ideas clinic one was pretty fun, being at school is less intimidating for younger members

    • karaoke is intimidating

    • paintball/gokart is expensive but people will come?

    • one more team wide social before end of term

      • joint with end of term

      • Rocketry & Wato

      • within the SDC ? force people to go to other people’s bays

  • Subteam socials maybe more chill for just normal members?

    • EE social

      • escape room

  • work sessions

    • mech meetings have good turn out, work sessions dont

Arch & Timelines

    • recent flight test challenges etc

    • a lot of checklists aren’t ready

    • working with FTCs for this - make sure they know what’s expected

    • subteams testing something need to be ready

    • expectation for FTCs to boil down the list

    • directors to meet with FTCs this week

Derek Rayside Meeting

Quick report, meeting with Derek Rayside improptu meeting in the bay, unreviewed by anyone, i did my best not to overcommit too hard, but open to roasting at leads tn and here, maybe someone thread this if u wanna go hard:

He wanted us to do more cleaning before midterms, i said hard no.

I committed to doing more cleaning just after finals, but before Christmas. This requires us to get Dallas flyable again by that time, I know it's a lot, it's tough.

He wants to us get the remaining small items that are still up there. He wanted engineering solution so I put forward our dual sideways prop idea as prime candidate but said it was flexible as an idea, he's open to other ideas, but yea the goal is get all the small items. The few massives ones can remain (out of scope of this).

He said we should see the 1k startup funds in our account by now. Funding proposal is to "the entire seventh floor" which to me is mostly Dean of Engineering (Mary Wells, who we talked to when doing test flights at the start of this term). We are welcome to ask for (far) more money then it will cost us to do the job in the spirit that the money is used to fund us going to more complicated competitions. I said funding proposal would be ready maybe a month or a month and a half from now. It seems highly likely we get some funding it's just a matter of how much.

I didn't commit (tho there was a lot of pressure to) try to make this a long term reoccurring thing. I think maybe once per term is reasonable, but it's hard to commit because unsure what state of team will be.

I said we would follow up with a team consensus of engineering approach and timeline details via email eventually as a lot of this needs to be discussed with the team.

We talked about our co-op program and stance on FYDPs and a bunch of other random stuff as well.

  • 5 kg upper bound for camera

    • hopefully lighter

    • weight here

  • low mech bandwidth for atrium cleaning → possible solutions include:

    • sideways facing prop

    • dropping a heavy weight with a line on it to pull off the heavier airplanes

    • can support 3d printing for this, but not a lot of design

  • reoccurring?

    • general cleaning stuff

  • @Georgia Vachon Westerlund

    • email sarah to check for funds

    • email Rayside to ask what the proposal entails for this

  • amount of monies

    • maybe go high?

    • it def costs us money
