  • Airframe team covers structures, stress and aerodynamics


Design Process:

  • Over the summer (after comp) team sends out an excel sheet for members to fill out and propose projects

  • In fall, project proposals and approved based on the scope, budget, etc.

  • Projects are generally based on how stuff went at comps and what needs to be fixed

  • After project is approved, focus in on figuring what composites/process to use

  • For design, use open source software

  • Ansys is good if you know how to use it but useless otherwise so would be better to start with easier programs (but UBC rocket does use Ansys if we ever want to ask)

  • When the final design is done, have a design review with advisors, prof and knowledgeable team members (as many people as possible)

  • Early on, focus on having something decent to fabricate (if there’s not much time, fabricate even if the design isn’t perfect)

 

Integration

  • To avoid integration issues later on, they have bi-weekly integration meetings with leads

  • At the meetings, use an excel doc to track any areas that are grey areas between sub teams and any issues (and the solution)
