What can we simulate?

• Most components WARG works with are 3D prints, composites, and some aluminum

  • PETG, PETG CF, ABS (rarely)

• Non-linear analysis for 3D printed components

  • 3D prints aren’t really simulated

• Sims. on composites

• Prof John Montesano researches composites at UW, good resources to talk about simulating composites materials

  • Abaqus software for sim

• For fixed wing plane, performing linear FEA aluminum wing spar, and landing gear

What software other teams use?

• Star CCM+ → CFD

• ACP in Ansys for composites

• Look into ACP for simulating composite structures

• Focus on CFD once we have a rough design of our fixed wing plane

• No need to look into simulating 3D printed parts, if they are being 3D printed then we probably don’t expect them to break easily (maybe except Pegasus landing gear)
