Electrical

Embedded Flight Software

  • Tracking Antenna: Will be testing YAW tracking during this Nov 10th Flight Test. Tracking Antenna is able to track location of drone with a high degree of accuracy (this was done by manually moving the drone around by hand). Ideally can finish Pitch Tracking next week, and once tested, this part of the project will be finished.

    • Command line mavproxy is easier to use than mission planner

  • CAN LED: CAN integration part is in progress

  • CAN Servo: Validated the CAN connectivity on 6s Servo Module. Intend to move the working code from the Nucleo board to a single servo driver in two weeks.

  • CAN ESC: Resolved the timer issue on the CAN ESC board. Able to generate DShot wave from the PCB. Will look into the CAN interface next. Hopefully, this can also be done within two weeks.

Mechanical

  • Payload:

  • Landing gear:

    • Angled landing gear design also reviewed yesterday

    • finalized by Monday, manufacturing next week

  • Bottom panel:

    • Going to remake the bottom plate with less cheese holes - we were going to do this layup on the weekend but our resin is rusty

    • Put in an order for more epoxy, might be on backorder though

  • IR Camera:

    • Added to monster mount, will be mounted earlier than Nov 14th (Shoutout Camilo for speedy turn-around)

  • LED Wiring

    • Arm was removed today to run the cable through the one arm that it wasn’t before

    • PSA, please don’t use gorilla tape to secure wires, expensive and leaves residue, please use zip-ties

Autonomy

  • From ground tests with picamera, it seems to be able to auto-adjust to different brightness. 2024 IR Hotspot Images

The sun
  •

    • The sky still looks very white, but grass and trees are less reflective, although still pretty white.

    • Looking directly into the sun is very white, but the IR emitter looks pretty much as bright as the sun

  • Geolocation ground test ongoing, works in simulator, code has been uploaded and setup, although not tested outside with GPS yet.

    • Will get someone to test outside hopefully tomorrow or Saturday, also check the home_location issue

Flight Tests

  • This weekend's flight test will be on Houston

    • Autonomy

      • Geolocation + Cluster Estimation Accuracy

        • Status: Ready

        • Will fly this manually at the altitudes specified unless team can get guided working for this

          • I, @Evan Janakievski, do not think I will get to this before Sunday, but will attempt to get it working if I find time

      • IR Camera

        • Status: Ready

        • Same flight plan as Geolocation

      • Obstacle Detection - testing Guided Mode

        • Still not as of meeting, @Vyomm Khanna said he would run it tonight

        • Lidar will be installed for this flight test, if it is ready

    • Tracking antenna

      • @Omer Sajid @Jeremy Zheng

      • Status: Good to go for this test, verified working with Houston with no issues in Yaw
