for the box idea:

  • can actuate it with a rail so that the two sides go like this ← →

    • rack and pinion

    • rails

  • make grabber less bulky

  • see if just tension from the thermaband can hold the object

Perhaps a hybrid, using four “fingers”, two planes, and horizontal motion to reduce size
