Pre-QnA Notes

  • attendance

    • a few teams no showed this one

    • no alberta, toronto, uvic (or they joined late idk)

  • conops updates - katrina

    • flight window time duration will be released depending on how many teams pay comp fee after april 2nd, all subject to change at the day of

    • FRR

      • checking insurance paperwork

      • RPAS safety declaration needs to be filled out for FRR

    • friday 30min flight survey (in schedule)

      • can bring things, just one member per team.

        • facetime or bring vtx if we truly wanted

    • proof of flight is coming up

    • time is medicine hat local time for deadlines for phase 2

    • local contacts / shipping

      • Joleine Martineau

Questions Daniel Asking

  • Define a cots airframe, put our own components is it legal?

    • Is more so against having the electronics come pre-selected and some wiring harness

    • Ok with barebones mechanical airframe that is off the shelf

  • Do we proof of flight each drone or just one?

    • Submit proof of flight of all drones flying.

    • If changes are made, it should be obvious, but not an entirely new airframe

  • Define competition intent configuration for purposes of proof of flight.

    • small modifications only

  • Do drones require gps coordinates bc not controlled airspace this year? In past this has been a requirement, but shouldn't be this year eh?

    • RPAS safety insurance requires GPS and barometer precision, so we would need to have one

  • Can you manually pilot and get full autonomy points for task 1.

    • Prolly gonna no comment this one but ima ask anyways.

    • Answer:

      • Said to look at Task 1 scoring card → related to auto take off and landing

      • We can manually fly over points to look for hotspots

      • Mobility is no the autonomy focus

      • Final statement: up to the discretion of the judges

        • Can’t just hover over the hotspot as that might indicate the script is looking for that stationary input

      • If something isn’t explicitly stated, don’t ask abt it

  • Can flight line be different people for task 1 and task 2.

    • Should be an easy yes, but just looking to confirm.

    • Confirmed ok

  • When can we ship batteries? How early? Victoria emailed but just bump inquiry here.

    • not asked this bc seems handled on our end

  • Can people observe from the flightline location during the competition?

    • limited tent space

    • stand behind the fence

    • ped traffic control this year, alma had more space

    • Will have space before flight time to set up and get organized at the very least

  • Are we responsible for transportation to the flightline?

    • Will have some shuttlebuses that can pick up and drop people off

    • Can drive right up to the flightline with our cars

  • Does auto release have to go in the drum for task 2 autonomy points?

    • For Task 2 autonomy points, it says auto intake and auto release.

    • Doesn’t say certain quantity needs to be auto, but maybe worth checking

    • No requirement, easy points to set up then. Just get into position

More Questions

  • questions asked by other people

  • Felix (Carleton) cooking as usual.

    • did some admin questions early on, but he didn’t have anything scoring related

    • asked about shipping (in captains package)

    • asked about shipping items back

      • can organize this with Joleine Martineau (local to Medicine Hat and helping organize)

      • Have a label and package fully set up and they can organize it getting picked up

      • Team would pay for shipping obviously

  • In what conditions are we expected to be able to fly?

    • judges will determine

    • Light rain, snow, light wind

    • Hard to specify without knowing 100% what would cause inclimate weather day

  • How much will the IR emitters show

    • Can be obstructed

    • Read conops

    • Will be maxed out from their power source, but can’t specify how much of the panel itself is visible

    • voltage you give to it scales brightness, that’s why they asked about this one

  • Will look at latest KML file when judging

    • multiple can be submitted

  • they have an SFOC

  • very dry weather

  • will hear back about extra space in residences

  • questions routing

    • CONOPS to Katrina

    • Alexandre for logistics

Off topic Notes
