Announcements / Admin

  • @Anthony Luo design doc freeze discussion.

    • There are still sections that need to be filled in.

    • Midterms week will slow us down for next few weeks

    • Need flight tests to determine operational limits of drone

    • @Anthony Luo to initiate RFC system

      • not much feedback from others

  • @Anthony Luo To announce importance of the design document phase 1 paper.

    • What does succeeding on it means for the team?

      • SDC street cred

  • @Daniel Puratich Recap flight test 2023-10-14: Pegasus Hover, ZP3.5 M1, & Pilot Trainning

    • @Nathan Green wrong motor configuration, flipped Pegasus

    • ~100 dollar of damage

      • couple props

      • antenna on LTE module

      • no action items following this, have extra props

    • @Daniel Puratich checklist updating

    • @Anthony Luo wants the flight test debrief to contain more data analysis and breakdown of what happened

      • We want people to get reasonable data out of the flight

    • We don’t want to drag out the flight test debrief to take a long time to discuss specifics of logs, @Alison Thompson @Conall Kingshott .

      • putting in the data eventually is useful

      • We test a lot of things on one day bc that's when we have the time and people to fly, @Alison Thompson

        • We shouldn’t run so much simultaneously @Anthony Luo to avoid overloading

    • Flight test debrief / data analysis needs to happen eventually

      • Can be at end of flight test, can be at another time @Megan Spee

    • Split debriefs and flight test into two meetings? @Anthony Luo

    • @R D (Deactivated) what is problem with stacking flight tests?

      • Crunching a lot of responsibility on very few people. Leads to more mistakes.

      • @Daniel Puratich in this case, people working on peggy and tubie were split so the task saturation diagnosis @Anthony Luo may not be accurate

    • A flight test is a lot of effort, to test a lot of things, we can’t split it up into lots of days @Alison Thompson

      • It’s a big endeavor to go to a flight test

      • would rather do a big one then a bunch of small ones

      • Not everyone has to attend every flight test @Anthony Luo

        • We have limited people that can fly and people that can drive @Alison Thompson

    • @R D (Deactivated) when we have many flight tests on a single day, there’s a concern that a single person is responsible for things on each of the tests. Can we just limit that? Clearly assign scope.

      • @Anthony Luo would allow debriefs to be split up

    • @Megan Spee same day flight tests is more convenient, much more time cost to split it. the worth of getting more attention may not be worth it.

    • @Anthony Luo flight tests overall could be shorter overall if split up.

    • @Alison Thompson Vehicles and Tubie flight same time bc the drivers and cars required.

      • @Anthony Luo not every flight test requires drivers, really only Pegasus bc of size and stuff

      • @Anthony Luo autonomous missions on houston are easy if people get trained. tubie is much easier to fly then Pegasus. can unblock teams by splitting tests.

    • @Anthony Luo was not a fan of debrief and stacking and thinks it went poorly, revisit at end of meeting, this is kind of a big discussion

  • @Daniel Puratich Announce flight test 2023-10-21 Flight Tests

  • @Daniel Puratich Do we want to run an AEAC sync next week?

  •

Action Items (we do these right now and assign immediately)

  •

Updates / Blockers / Finished items

Airframe ON TRACK

  • Fasteners and everything have been redone and are working well.

  • Landing gear is okay, but unideal atm. We will want to redesign at some point, but this is not top of the list.

  • No notable damage from flipping is nice?

    • structure is pogging

  •

  •

Payload In pog-ress (pog)

  • Not too many updates because of reading week

  • Skeleton dimensions have been updated and current updates can be found here: Skeleton

  • Aero-panels are in the works and updates can be found here: Aero-Panels

  • Aero-panel mounting is being worked on, updates in Aero-Panel Mounting soon!

  • Going to be checking in on all these projects tomorrow at mech meeting

  • Going well, no changes withing the scope of this meeing.

Aerodynamics In pog-ress (pog)

  • Not much updates, still under R&D

Sensors In pog-ress (pog)

  •

PDB In pog-ress (pog)

Harnessing In pog-ress (pog)

  • Anti-spark XT90 connectors.

    • @Nolan Haines timeline currently uncertain

  • Diagram so far

    • Added harness symbols

      • using harnessing feature

    • addedsome connectors

    • added RFD900x

    • Would appreciate feedback and pointers to missing components

    • @Michael Botros

  • Unchanged from lasting sync.

  • Still needs to be delegated out.

  • Have a few people who are nearly done with bootcamp that could be assigned to this.

  • What we have on drone right now is at least in the ballpark, but we do want to calculate eventually.

  • Neel: Checked conops didn’t see any requirement for Passenger LED at least for scoring points, could still be something we add if we want

    • No requirement for passenger LEDs @Anthony Luo

    • No connection to pixhawk required for led system

    • integrate into end of motor and colors last week

  • Neel: No real updates, been really busy with work. Will try to do more this week.

Gemini In pog-ress (pog)

@Farris Matar carried 😎, notes he left:

  • Through hole components still need to be soldered on, we also didn’t get the SMD loop testpoints in the order so we’ll need to order those w the next Digikey order

  • Quite a few bridges to clean up on some of the ICs

  • ESP01F still needs to be ordered in the next aliexpress order and assembled. Some of the pads for it are bridged and will need to be fixed to prevent shorts

    • This isn’t required for EFS to use these boards!!!

  • One board is missing an 0603 green LED, 1 got lost while I was placing them

    • We have tons of LEDs in the LED box, should be pre free to find one, idk bout color :d

  • Some of the pads for the TX modules may need to be touched up on 1 of the boards

  •

Antenna TrackerIn pog-ress (pog)

Mechanically on pause until further notice.

  • Slowly going through comments left by Daniel

    • Cleaned up some features on ADC, I2C, added voltage sensing

    • Found problem with RPP calculation, will redo

    • Need to clean up connector schematic pages

  • discover compiled BMX160 offical sensor fusion library → currently integrating the driver

  • GPS driver test in progress

  • verify the actual algorithm math working

Auto-landing Not started

  •

  •

  •

  •

  • Looked through options for digital video transmission.

    • Best options are LTE or OpenHD.

    • LTE software complexity high, testing limits harsh

    • OpenHD has had issues in the past. Seemed to be hardware issues - will they have been fixed?

      •

Pathing

  • Questions from xierumeng

    • Drone doing as many laps as it can? What is considered a point where the drone should not fly anymore laps?

      • anni: on the ground at 3v, 90% of capacity used (10% remaining) - subject to change based on drone current draw, or arbitrary % draw

        • daniel: look into ardupilot SoC, the best algorithms for battery SoC require mixing current sense and voltage data, ardupilot may have something thats good,

      • mihir: time (flight window)

      • failsafes? → manual intervention?

      • anni: if drone touches ground not at takeoff point, you lose everything.

Testing goals for near future

  • @Daniel Puratich is letting this rest for a bit

  • 2023-10-21 Flight Tests

    • Houston Pilot Training Flight:

      • Provide new pilot @Hardy Yu with flight training time.

      • Houston for pilot training in stabilize mode

    • Pegasus Hover Test:

      • Ensure Pegasus flies without oscillations in stabilize, altitude hold, and position hold flight modes.

      • Pegasus successfully hover and under the control from pilot

    • Houston Autonomy Camera Payload Flight

      • Flight test $200 CV Camera Payload and confirm images look as expected

  • @Anthony Luo Wants to update our template for flight tests. Can get BETA x WARG event to cover what they do for testing?

  • @Anthony Luo doing presentations

  • Getting your TC basic is pre ez RPAS - Basic licencing

    • ctrl+f skills

  • Getting your GSO for IPP is easy FPP: GSO Handbook

    • some safety + memorization

    • If you have questions hit up @Anthony Luo

  • more people should get trained

    • we need pilots!

    • specifically autonomy and efs members to facilitate testing

Arch Doc

  • @Anthony Luo will make generic template

    • not to overkill it with rigidity
