Autonomy Plan

  • Device Detection

    • enhances ability to detect device, little point contribution

    • if we know how big package is (and estimated area), can put it in during runtime

    • hard to get data with only 1 camera, could have multiple or take multiple photos

    • Probably not worth it because not worth many points

  • Do we include a camera gimbal

    • needed if QR code is in weird location

    • most of the cv tasks don’t need a camera

    • 2 cameras would be nice for CV, but harder for software cause they have to deal with the position of the cameras (stereographic cameras?) so maybe not worth it

    • For task 2 if we don’t have a gimbal, could be hard to recognize person and hard to track humans (ex: they disappear under a tree) from straight above - could also mount camera in a different position for task 2 (at 45deg or smth)

      • it’s really hard to track someone with a gimbal and doing it manually would also have to be extremely precise and hard to do successfully

      • if pitch forward because of wind, would lose sight and could nicely adjust gimbal to point at the same point

    • could keep camera mounted at fixed location for task 1 for pilot

    • We could make the grabber and gimbal swappable

    • We want the gimbal to stabilize the camera

      • So could be controlled in the pitch direction during flight

      • Can zoom in on a specific area without being forced to be straight above

Conclusion: likely yes to having a camera gimbal
